Who We Are

The Greater Amsterdam Riverlink Park is owned by the citizens of the City of Amsterdam, New York.  The city has charged the Amsterdam Waterfront Association, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation*, with running, upkeep and expansion of the park.

The Amsterdam Waterfront Foundation (AWF) is a group of dedicated volunteers, including it's Board of Directors, that work tirelessly to bring both residents and visitors a fun and free experience.

Throughout the summer season there are free civic concerts, fireworks, fundraisers, and a host of activities geared toward children, teens, adults and senior citizens.

Future endeavors will include expansion of Riverlink Park, the connecting of Riverlink Park with Guy Park Manor, a pedestrian bridge to the south side of the city, further development of the public boat launch on the south shore of the river and acquisition of a tour boat.

Our Focus and Start

The Amsterdam Waterfront Foundation was formed to promote the development and use of the Mohawk River and Erie Canal.  It has successfully raised more than $2 million dollars for the construction of Riverlink Park and Visitors' Center.

Initial contributions from the State of New York, Amsterdam Savings Bank (now First Niagara), Saint Mary's Hospital of Amsterdam, the Children's Aid Society and Centro Civico of Amsterdam got the project rolling. Continued support from volunteers and other contributors has allowed the AWF to continue its mission and expand its horizons.

Did you Know?

Just east of Riverlink Park
  along the Erie Canal
 (Mohawk River) is a rock
 ledge. Long ago there were
 Indian paintings on this rock
 face that were called the
 "Painted Rocks."
